Toys, Sex, and Other Ways to Spice Up Lifeby Kelli Kamryn
The heroine in the book wrestles with her love for two men, feeling like she has to choose between them. Tom has been Callie’s best friend since childhood, and after many of their romances end, she’s begun to suspect their friendship has been getting in the way. When she meets Max, she feels free to explore sides of herself with someone she truly trusts. Callie doesn’t want to lose either man from her life, and ends up pushing them both away. Here’s an excerpt featuring her inner struggles:
A wistful smile ghosted across her lips. Sex with Max had been fantastic, and he’d been the only man she’d shared her kinky side with. Couple that with their shared sense of humor, and she felt she could talk to him about anything. They’d become friends and lovers, and she didn’t want to lose him.
Once she knew she loved Max, doubt had crept into her subconscious. Everything had been too good to be true. If she continued her relationship with Max, she feared he wouldn’t accept her relationship with Tom.
Or did I break up with him because I thought he would? The two guys had seemed to click when she introduced them. While she would love to keep both men in her life, polyamorous relationships weren’t the norm, and people often looked down on them.
Getting ahead of yourself a little, aren’t ya? She sighed, turning her cell over in her hand repeatedly. She jiggled her leg nervously, her foot tapping against the couch she sat on as fear once again reared its ugly head. I haven’t even spoken to Tom to see how he feels about me. How can I consider a relationship with both of them if I don’t know whether what we have is simply platonic? And so what if he doesn’t want a romantic relationship? Max will still love me and we can have one. But what if I make it awkward with Tom? Will he still be my friend?
Callie’s stomach rumbled, something it had done since she’d been a child when anxiety upset her world. She hadn’t yet mastered a calm, peaceful inner world. Which was why all of the questions bouncing around in her brain caused her such anxiety. Tom and Max were the two people she could truly relax around, and for the first time in her life, she thought maybe she would have the support to vanquish her anxieties once and for all.
