Finding a soul mate was the easy part. To seduce him proved Martin’s hardest challenge, for nothing in Pirate Drake’s black intriguing eyes seemed to recognize the one-person destiny had selected for him. But can the month between Thanksgiving and Christmas be enough to convince him to the contrary in spite of his dilemmas about gender, feelings, connections and sex, or can Pirate Drake find a way around the burning desire, the erotic heat, the uncontrollable passion wrecking his senses at Martin’s mere sight?
This book is just perfect for St. Patrick’s Day because one of the main characters is Irish. And he’s Martin Shaw, or Devil as Drake will eventually call him. But read on to discover how the two first met.
“My mom lives in a small town in Ireland and every Christmas, we all reach her and celebrate it together.”
“How many of you are there?”
“We’re four in all. I have two older brothers and a younger sister.”
“And they live there?”
“Oh no, we’re all scattered around. Kevin’s in India, working for a big Irish network, Scott’s in Rome with an Arab TV station and Julia, the closest one to Mom, lives in London.”
“What about your father?”
“Oh, the bastard left us when I was only three years old, so Julia and I didn’t even get to know him. He was a British pervert, or so Mom claims, no need to bother looking for him.” At these words, he changed his voice, probably to imitate his mother.
“And I suppose you’ll bring Aline along to meet your family.”
“She’s been asking it, but I’m not sure I will.”
Though it was none of his business, Drake felt the need to know, even if he sensed a certain reluctance on Martin’s part to breach the subject. “Why not?”
“It’s a family tradition of ours to invite a guest each to our gathering, but it has to be someone really special. So far, my sister’s brought about four or five different guys, all of which turned out to be complete failures. This year, she’ll bring her husband and since she married him, I hope he turns out better than his predecessors. Scott and Kevin both brought a couple of girls in different years, but none turned out to be a lasting relationship.”
Martin was silent for a while. “I never brought anyone.” He shook his head slowly. “No, I never found that special one like I said, though I searched far and wide. Aline wouldn’t be fitting either. That’s why I think I’ll go alone once more.”
Something about the devil’s tone touched Drake at a level so deep he could not help feeling sad. “If you followed your instinct, you’d probably bring a man.” He tried joking to lighten the mood. “And I don’t know how your mom, brothers or sister would take it.”
“Oh, they have no problem with it. In the past, I introduced them to my various boyfriends and they were always happy to welcome them. It’s just that the Christmas invitation means so much, I’ve never felt like extending it to any of them because they weren’t…The One.”
Feeling cold all of a sudden, Drake got up. “Maybe it’s time we returned home. The others should’ve woken up by now.”
In silence, they retraced their steps, the sound of dead leaves crackling under their feet breaking the odd stillness enveloping the lake. Catching sight of the car, Drake hurried to it, but before he could reach it, the devil grabbed him. “Listen, I need to know we’re all right, you and I, and that you’ve forgiven me for my rash behavior.”
Standing so close their lips almost touched, their breaths mingling in the cold air, Drake had to restrain the tantalizing memory of Martin’s mouth taking firm possession of his cock, having to ignore at the same time the painful throbbing at his crotch. “Sure we are, Devil,” he agreed, letting the nickname slip out unexpected.
Martin grinned. “Then I have only one favor to ask. Would you mind it terribly if I called you Pirate?” His eyes blatantly appraised him. “It suits you so damn well.”
