The center of the couple’s disagreements was custody of their three children, all under the age of five. According to Candace, Rodney did not want to pay child support for three kids.
Candace told police, she had received a phone call from Rodney around 8:30 pm that night, stating he would not be picking up the kids for visitation the next day. The tall, muscular, dark-haired and dark-eyed man claimed he was broken down on the freeway near Cleveland, Ohio, even though he and his parents owned four vehicles.
According to her Facebook account, Autumn was born February 28, 1985, in Logan, and was one of seven children born to two fathers.
Autumn first met Rodney at a social gathering at his family’s church, House of Christ. It was a small white church in Nelsonville, Ohio, a bedroom community between Logan and Athens, located on US Route 33 in Athens County, just over the Hocking County line.
Right after Autumn’s 2004 high school graduation, the couple married at her church, The Worship Center, in Logan. Reverend Lewis Talbot performed the ceremony. All agreed that Autumn was in love and looked forward to a large family and growing old with Rodney. Little did they know that Rodney’s love for his new bride was twisted, and would soon reach its boiling point.
Known for her “infectious smile,” Autumn had grown up attending a Pentecostal church with her parents, and after her wedding she looked forward to being a stay-at-home mom. The couples three children soon followed. Autumn’s life seemed complete to many, but according to family members, she grew tired of being treated as a possession instead of a mutual partner in her marriage.
