A. Catherine Noon here, wishing you a continued Happy Valentine’s Day. I thought we could turn our minds to our memories, and mine them for our favorite dates.
One of mine was when we took a ghost tour in Galena, Illinois, several years ago. We met downtown and wandered around the outside of the buildings, talking about different legends of hauntings. We went past the famous Dowling House (yes, it’s haunted) and then took a trolley all the way up the side of the mountain to wander back and forth through the steep streets. My favorite part was going to one of the area cemeteries to talk about things locals and visitors have seen. All in all, it was an awesome date.
Another one was when we tried a new-to-us sushi place. My husband adores sushi. Me, not so much. I’ll eat it, but we live in the midwest and there are no oceans nearby. I was raised near the Pacific. ‘Nuf said. So we go to this place and he gets all excited. “They have sweet shrimp!” I’m all, huh? So he ordered it.
If you’re a seafood person, it’s apparently a delicacy.
If you don’t like bugs with eyes, you probably won’t.
I excused myself to “go to the restroom” so he could eat it in peace. Incidentally, the place had a cool bar in back, so I wandered around in there to give him time to choke that puppy down. ~shudder~
And no, that’s not what made it a great date. Memorable, yes. But what made it great is this: we spent the whole time (other than my walkabout) talking. That’s all, just talking. Like magpies. It was incredibly fun and endearing.
What about you, Dear Reader? What’s your favorite thing to do on a date?
