“What is it Cassandra?” asked the priest.
“Mary was leaving town to escape her father’s sexual abuse. He was the baby’s father. Mary hated and feared the man and wanted away from him. She and her father argued, and he strangled her then cut her head off before dumping her body in the woods and reporting her miss’n.”
“So the dental students were innocent?” replied Roger.
“Yes, but to keep the blame off of him, Mr. Mast, blamed the murder and pregnancy on the dental students”.
“And with his political influences, the law believed his story and hanged the dental students?” said the priest.
“Yes” she whispered before falling backward and fainting in Roger’s arms. Moments later she woke on the kitchen floor with Roger, Diane, Kenny and Father Michael staring down at her. “What did you see in the well?” they asked, helping her to her feet.
“I saw the well full of black water and the floating head of Mary Mast.”
