When the power goes out,
there’s nothing to do.
I cant cook, or shower,
or enjoy the news.
The fridge is on the blink,
and the alarm wont ring.
Making me late for everything.
The neighbors are grouchy, loud and mean.
While the rain is pour’n,
and the sun unseen.
The work crews are buzz’n,
try’n to get things fixed.
With most shops closed from the city to the sticks.
I’m down to my meager needs,
and no ice in sight.
No hot water, cool breeze,
or batteries for my flashlight.
It’s been many a day, and I’m start’n to fret.
Did they forget us out here?
Are we the last one’s yet?
My hair is unkempt,
and I sweat worse than my dogs.
Anymore whine’n and this’ll be my swan song.
Complain’n gets me nowhere, its obvious to see.
So this is goodbye, see ya, Adios, so long.
Authors Note: In July 2012, there was a massive power outage in my county and many other counties in Ohio. I went seven days without electric.
