Well friends, this is my last post for this great party. I hope you are commenting for prizes. I will be back tomorrow for more postings of my books. Until then, thank you and good night.
Carrie grew instantly defensive, “You’ve always hated mother! She told me you accused her of getting pregnant with me just to trick father into marrying her.”
“It doesn’t matter anymore why Zack married Myra. But I do know he never deserted you. Myra lied about what happened the night Zack disappeared.”
“You’re wrong, Uncle Doug,” she said. Turning on her heel, she left in a huff and drove straight to her mother’s home to tell her the grim news about Mark.
Her mother grew instantly contrite. “Oh my! Do they have any suspects?”
“Not until Mark regains consciousness. The police believe he got a look at his attacker. But who would do such a thing? It doesn’t make any sense.”
“It sounds like he stepped on someone’s toes, dear,” said Myra, placing a cup of sweet tea in front of her worried daughter.
Carrie took a long drink before replacing the glass to the table. “What does that mean? He stepped on someone’s toes? He hasn’t been in town long enough to make enemies.” Carrie continued sipping the drink.
“I mean, he’s a police officer. Getting shot at is part of the job, right?”
