Dark Thoughts And Underworld by Cynthia Sax
One of the movie franchises I love to revisit close to Halloween is Underworld. I love their movies centered around Selene, a Death Dealer assassin vampire. (And I love Kate Beckinsale’s portrayal of her.)
Selene is a powerful heroine. She has a tragic past. Her entire family was killed. (How they were killed and by whom is a large part of the plot.) She has faults. Charm isn’t a skill she has obtained. (grins) She is strong and decisive and she has a caring heart buried under all that gruffness.
Dita, the heroine of Dark Thoughts, resembles Selene a bit physically. She has short dark hair, pale skin, dresses in tight leather. Dita doesn’t have fangs or drink blood but I suspect she’s bitten more than one being. She tends to use any and all weapons at her disposal.
Because, like Selene, Dita is a skilled assassin. She was given that role as a young child, spent much of her youth training for it, and now, that is her mission—to hunt down targets and eliminate them. When we first meet her, delivering death is her sole purpose, her unique place in the universe.
Dita also has a tragic past…though I believe that’s almost a necessity for assassins. I doubt many well-loved, doted upon, exceedingly ‘normal’ folks decide to kill people for a living.
The heroine of Dark Thoughts didn’t have a choice about being an assassin. And once she was thrust into that infamous career, many of her other choices were taken away from her. That has changed her, made her into, what she calls, a monster…which is ironically what many would consider Selene, a vampire, to be.
One major difference between Dita and Selene, however, is Dita, despite the darkness in her past, now has a very playful attitude toward her role. She skips along walls. She jokes with beings. She flirts with Kralj and laughs, not taking much, including her own possible death, seriously.
Have you watched any of the Underworld movies? If yes, which one was your favorite?

Dark Thoughts
Can love redeem a monster?
The Refuge is home to some of the most violent beings in the universe. Kralj, its leader, reigns over the remote outpost with terrifying ease, ruthlessly squashing any rumors of rebellion, killing anyone who breaks his rules. Primitive, deadly, powerful, he’s a monster, scarred both on his face and his soul. He has never met a being he couldn’t control.
Until he meets her.
Dita has one mission—to kill the three targets claiming sanctuary within the Refuge. Or so she claims. For the first time in his long lifespan, Kralj isn’t certain of another being’s intentions. The tiny assassin is immune to his powers, her thoughts unreadable. He can’t predict her movements, can’t control her, can’t stop wanting her.
Dita is rare, as unique as he is, and, to keep the residents of the Refuge safe, Kralj will have to kill her. But first, he’ll touch her, taste her, show her how passionate the beast inside him can be.
Dark Thoughts is a STAND-ALONE SciFi Romance.
The hero might be tall, dark, and scarred but don’t be fooled by his appearance.
He’s truly a monster.
