CHRISTMAS MEMORIES: GERMANY
In 1986, I was stationed in Muenster, Germany. I was active duty Army and my job as Military Police. Downtown Muenster had a pedestrian square that hosted a Christmas Market every year. There were booths that sold handicrafts, wooden ornaments, and marzipan cookies. They also sold a warm drink called Gluhwein. It was a mulled wine drink usually spiced with cinnamon sticks, vanilla, sugar, or rum. You could find everything you wanted to decorate your home along with gifts for the family at the Christmas markets. That old-world charm has stayed with me since.
I enjoy buying ornaments for the tree. I like hand-carved, old-fashioned wooden ornaments or ornaments that look/feel old. I like bows on the tree and white lights. I also like to put a star on the top of the tree. How I decorate my tree harkens back to the time I spent in Germany.
Question for you: What decorations do you like to put on your tree? Do you put an angel or a star on top? Do you use white or colored light? I’d love to see pictures of your tree.
My story, Mr. Christmas Elf is available on Amazon.
SHORT BLURB:
Jules is a hard-working girl who can barely afford bus fare. Elvis is an eager Christmas Elf looking to do a good deed and move on. Will a little Christmas magic help bring a deeper meaning to the season for both of them?
EXCERPT:
Joe crossed his arms and pointed to the muffler Elvis carried. “How are you going to get that on her car? I don’t think you’ve seen a day of hard labor in your life.”
“I’ve got my buddies from the car model shop coming down at 1:00. We’ll have the work finished by 5:00 tonight.”
“What car model shop?” Joe asked. “How do I know they do good work?”
Elvis waved his hand in a casual manner. “The boss wouldn’t have hired them if they didn’t know their way around a car.”
“The boss?” Joe asked.
“Santa,” Elvis replied.
I stared at Elvis and a warm, knowing feeling rushed over me, chasing my goosebumps away. Faith. This was more than hope. It was faith. This was my faith moment, and I decided to embrace it.
MR CHRISTMAS ELF is available on Amazon as an Ebook for 99 cents and is in the Kindle Unlimited Program.
REVIEW: 5 Stars, Kindle Customer:
This has a lot of humor and the setting is New Hampshire at Christmas time. What could be better. I could picture it all in my head as I read the story. I felt like my heart was warmed, and I was helped at the end to feel better about life in general. Very uplifting reading!
