Chapter 2 Post from Murder Most Foul
Chapter 2 Excerpt:
The reason for the search-a chilling telephone call from a young girl concerning a “pig-like” object floating in the water.
Within the first hour, local derelict Fred Layman shouted, “I think it’s them!” When the sheriff came closer, Layman shook like a leaf and studdered his words. “At firstttt… I… thought it wassss… just white traaaash… bags huuuung up on thhhhe rocks. I can’ttttt… even tell if it’s hhhhuman.”
“Don’t tell anyone what we got down here, Fred! You hear me?” said Sheriff Brown to the hysterical man as he left. Brown then yelled at his deputies, “Keep the rest of the search teams away.” The sheriff sped to his cruiser and called-in the find.
Just 150 yards north of the railroad trestle spanning the local river, Chief Barstow, and one of his officers reported “something dark entangled in debris,” from their small boat, the chief later told reporters, “I thought it was an animal carcass,” but once it was dislodged and floated down stream, “we realized it was human.”
