As I mentioned, there are three stories in this collection. Here are the blurbs for the three tales.
Saved By Sam:
As he struggles to get back on his feet after the horrors of service as a medic in the Middle East war, Roy Dunham tends bar in a quiet club. The sudden entrance of K-9 Officer Samson and his handsome partner Craig Rommel startles Roy. Put off by the cop’s attitude until Sam and Craig save him from drug-driven violence, his opinion soon changes. He returns the favor by tending their gunshot wounds. Before long, Roy finds himself hoping the policeman and the dog will become permanent parts of his life. Can Sam be the key to winning his way into Craig Rommel’s well-protected heart?
Schnickelfritz in Love:
Industrial electrician Jake has traveled too much to make a lot of friends but finally gave in to impulse and acquired Snick, a feisty rescued mini-schnauzer. Detective Boz similarly obtained Athena, a retired racing greyhound and a total lady. Both men adore their canine partners but when the dogs meet at the dog park and develop an instant love affair, all hell breaks loose. Meanwhile valuable materiel and components are vanishing from the construction site of a new medical complex where Jake is working. Boz is assigned to the case and the two must work together. Can they make this and much more work? Only the dogs know for sure.
Travel writer Trek has played the footloose happy wanderer for some time. It is not as much fun anymore but how can he stop? Then his restored classic 1959 Plymouth Fury is stolen at a service station in a dusty little New Mexico town and even worse, his beloved canine companion, rescued Pit Bull Commando, is in the car! Commando puts the ‘bite’ on the car thief but that only complicates matters. Officer Dan Winslow has to sort this out.
Small town cop Dan is a ‘nice guy’ but not satisfied with his solitary life. He feels something is missing but is not sure what until he meets Trek and then gets to know Trek’s unique dog. Circumstances strand Trek in Alamo Junction for awhile so Dan offers the traveler shelter but he knows he can’t expect the sophisticated, footloose writer and photographer to put down roots. He knows he’s only going to have a few days to enjoy what for Trek is a holiday fling. What will he do when it’s over?
My next post will give you a snippet from Dogjacked. It has some humor and silliness but serious parts too and some very serious down and dirty interaction between Dan and Trek. Even Commando gets his turn for some fun.
A side note, in two of these stories supposedly neutered male dogs behave in a very ‘unfixed’ manner. This is not as unusual as you might think. It takes awhile for the hormones to get out of the body and if they were mature before they were neutered, some of those urges may still be present. It is also not uncommon for spayed females to experience “false heat” and then could be responsive to a male. I support responsible pet parenting and will not have a canine companion that is not neutered but have studied the veterinary aspects and made sure I was not writing the impossible here! Also a more atypical situation is when a male has an undescended testicle and it is not removed when he is surgically neutered. This is rare and often causes medical problems later for the dog. TMI for most of you? Okay. Enough!! Just did not want anyone crying foul!
