Always Late–but I’m here!
I hope everyone is having a great Saturday. I meant to get some posts set up last night but had gotten mixed up on my log-in info. I think I am suffering from CRS disease these days! Then this morning had to go to the Farmer’s Market down in the town park. I sell jewelry and some other craft items and enjoy visiting with the folks who come to look and buy, patting a few dogs and sometimes making a buck or two–I net enough to keep buying supplies most of the time! So that is my tady excuse for today. Oh, in case you didn’t guess, it’s Deirdre O’Dare!
Okay, we’re here to talk books, right? I love historicals and read them a lot. I have a personal issue with Medievals and the eras before and after. Since history wa my major in college, I guess I read too much harsh, grim, factual stuff. Good writers–like Sue ellen Welfonder and others of her ilk –can make me suspend disbelief but I can’t do that while creating my own tales so anything with that background from me would have to be fantasy. If I can believe elves and fairies and banshees, then forgetting the filth, the sordid lives of 95% of the people, the prevalent violence, cruelty–well all that awful stuff!– is not so hard.
So when I go historical it is usually the old west and for some reason I can accept it as ‘romantic’ even though I know most cowboys were really solitary, crude, unwashed, unlearned and as far from ‘gentlemen’ is you could get although they had their code and ethics and were mostly good hearted men. But I can do that setting. I’ve been writing mostly m/m romances the last few years and that makes a historical setting a challenge. Anything from about twenty years ago on back means ‘gay rights’ were at best a distant dream, acceptance was a wish rather than a reality and discovery could have dire consequences! Yet love can and will find a way–and I believe in love more than anything!
Thank You, Ranch Romances is one of my tributes to the past, to an institution that gave me pleasure and comfort years ago and to that belief in love. You can grab a copy today for the new release discount at JMS Books today http://www.jms-books.com/ since it’s hot off the presses today. I will also give away one ecopy to someone–random selection–who comments on my posts at this party!
In just a minute I’ll give you a look at the cover–which is a special fave of mine as I will explain–and also blurb, buy link and other critical stuff!

I love historical romances as well, especially MM, and I am very grateful for the authors whose books give me hope that people during that time were able to find happiness and love, no matter the adversities that stood in their way.
