Burb: When deaf eighteen year old Craig Short leaves home to attend the prestigious school for the deaf, little did his parents know it would be the death of him?
Excerpt: When Cybil heard the detectives were closing in on a suspect, she said she was beside herself. She knew Craig’s murder would have a closure. She believed no parent should go through what this senseless cold-hearted killer put her family and the Zorn’s through.
Missing from Jason’s room were credit cards and bank checks. When police learned one of the checks had been cashed, they acted quickly. When the detectives viewed the bank video, Morrison said she suspected the killer was a homeless person, or a drug addict. What they saw was mind blowing.
The last person the detectives said they suspected and eliminated early in the Craig Short murder case, were right there on the video. He wore no disguise. He did not act nervous. He was as calm as a cucumber when cashing that stolen check. His completely calm and collect attitude enraged investigators. Det. Marker said if he could have reached into that video and wrung his neck, he would have.
The detectives knew the man. He was the student who lived across the hall from Craig. He hugged Craig’s parents at the candlelight vigil. He told police Craig was an inspiration to all deaf people. The son-of-a-bitch fooled everyone.
Armed with a search warrant, Detectives Marker and Morrison with officer back up stormed the dorm room of Joseph Mesa. He was not present. An immediate A.P.B. was issued for his arrest. Found inside the room was brown hairs from Joseph’s hairbrush, and bagged for evidence. In the closet, we discovered every shirt was a size medium, except one. It was a 2X many sizes too big for Joseph, but not for Jason Zorn. They bagged that also.
Mitch’s DNA already cleared him of being the donor of the brown hairs found in Craig’s hand; still he was kept under surveillance, being he was the only suspect at that time.
